Mesothelium protects the organs by producing a lubricating fluids within its two membrane layers which allows the covered internal organs to move and glide smoothly against other nearby internal structures/bones. A Mesothelioma cancer has been shown to develop mostly from exposure to asbestos (possibly from work-related activities); however, the symptoms may not be apparent until after 20-50 years after exposure. Since the symptoms usually develops late after the exposure time, usually 20-50 years (on average 35-40 years), it is extremely hard to tell early on whether you are experiencing serious level of exposure to asbestos or not that might lead to the cancer. Some cases were detected as early as less than 20 years.
